FROM WASTE TO WONDER: EMBRACING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

On September 17, 2024, within the scope of the From Waste to Wonder 2024 program, the From Waste to Wonder: Embracing the Circular Economy workshop was organized by International University in collaboration with the University’s Union of Students and Schoolab Asia, supported by Lagom Vietnam Joint Stock Company and REshare Joint Stock Company, with the participation of many students and lecturers from the school.

The workshop aims to raise awareness and promote circular economy and sustainable development practices at International University. Simultaneously, the program aims to collect recyclable materials to ensure that these materials are not wasted in the environment, creating a closed life cycle for them.

In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Duc Anh Vu, Vice President of the university, shared, “Implementing the goals towards Netzero 2050 of Ho Chi Minh City and raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals in general, and environmental protection awareness in particular for the community, especially students, is definitely crucial”.

Within the scope of the program, Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Duc Anh Vu, Vice President of the university, announced the establishment of a collection hub for recyclable materials (plastic, hiflex tarpaulin, old clothes, milk cartons) at the university until December 31, 2024, with the goal of creating a space for all students and staff to work together towards a green and sustainable university.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Anh Vu - Vice President and Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Diep - Head of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer presented gifts to the guest speakers of the program.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, Senior APAC Program Manager, Consultant of Innovation and Sustainability from Schoolab Asia, shared about the contributions of innovation in the circular economy.

The workshop provided useful information on circular economy practices from businesses such as Schoolab Asia, Pizza 4P’s, and UPGREEN Vietnam. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, Senior APAC Program Manager and Consultant of Innovation and Sustainability from Schoolab Asia, presented on the topic “Circular Economy with Innovative Thinking” to delve into how innovative thinking can transform our approach to and implementation of the circular economy.

Ms. Vuong Nguyen Minh Thu - Sustainability Manager at Pizza 4P's, was currently addressing inquiries from students.

Ms. Ton Nu Yen Nhi, Co-founder and COO of UPGREEN Vietnam Joint Stock Company, delivered a captivating presentation titled “Not a Choice – But a Way of Life,” showcasing the innovative transformation of plastic waste into unique works of art and valuable items to the students and faculty members of the university.

Ms. Ton Nu Yen Nhi, Co-founder and COO of UPGREEN Vietnam Joint Stock Company, was currently responding to questions posed by students.

The seminar concluded with an engaging question and answer session where students actively posed questions to the speakers, demonstrating their profound interest in the discussed topic.

Students from International University, including those from the School of Business Administration, the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and the School of Industrial Engineering and Management, posed questions to the speakers.
