International University is an Official Institutional Nominator of VinFuture Prize 2021

On 27th April 2021, International University (IU) and VinFuture Foundation, entered into a meeting to boost the cooperative ties in research and education exchanges.

Attending the meeting, from VinFuture Foundation, there were Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh – Executive Secretary of VinFuture Foundation at Vingroup JSC and Dr. Do Tho Truong – Assistant professor of College of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUni.

Representatives from IU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh – Vice Rector of International University and other Leaders from other faculties and departments of IU.

During the meeting, Foundation’s role and mission, the criteria and the VinFuture Prize Council were introduced in detail by Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh. Particularly, IU is one of the few prestigious research institutions in Vietnam chosen by VinFuture Foundation to introduce and invite to be a partner of VinFuture Prize Award in 2021 and the following years, according to the information shared.

After the meeting, International University has been accepted to become an Official Institutional Nominator of VinFuture Prize 2021.

VinFuture Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit foundation in Vietnam. The Foundation is established with the vision of creating meaningful change in the everyday lives of millions of people by honoring transformational technological innovations. The Foundation is set up with an initial endowment of VND 2,000 billion (~USD 100 million) from Mr. Phạm Nhật Vượng, the founder and Chairman of Vingroup JSC, a technology, industry, and services company in Vietnam, and his wife, Mrs. Phạm Thu Hương.

The mission of The Foundation is to build a future where breakthrough scientific research and technological innovations empower people, positively enhance their lives, and create a more equitable and sustainable world for future generations.

The core activities of the Foundation is to award the annual VinFuture Prize to proven breakthrough scientific research and technological innovations that have a high potential to create meaningful change in the lives of people.

The VinFuture Prize rewards exceptional minds whose research and technological innovations have created meaningful change in the everyday lives of millions of people.

Any research or technological innovation is eligible for the Prize if it addresses everyday issues of people, by being aligned with one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Prize Council will review and update the fields of focus for the VinFuture Prize annually.

The VinFuture Prize comprises of a Grand Prize and three special prizes, as follows:

  • One VinFuture Grand Prize of value 3.0 million dollars, awarded annually, the prize will be awarded to proven breakthrough research, and technological innovations that positively improve the quality of human life, and create a more equitable and sustainable world for future generations.    
  • Three special prizes of 500,000 dollars each will also be awarded annually, with a focus on promoting diversity, equity, and new fields of study. These prizes will be earmarked for the following groups: (1) One VinFuture Special Prize for an exceptional researcher or innovator from a developing country institute, (2) One VinFuture Special Prize for an outstanding woman researcher or innovator and (3) One VinFuture Special Prize for breakthrough research or innovations in an emerging field of science and technology that has significant future potential to create positive change for humanity.
